Will Play
for Food
Music of
Hope, a string ensemble, has selected the Roseau County Food Shelf as their
2013 charity. Music of Hope is a string
ensemble based in Roseau County. The
group formed in October 2007 and was the brain-child of Mary Dieter.
The
musicians range in age and musical training; but they all share a love of
music. Current Music of Hope members are
violins – Mary Jo Falk, Kathy Herseth, Arlette Solom and Gwen Borgen; cellos –
Mary Dieter and Rhoda Huglen. The group
meets weekly at Alive Outdoors in Roseau.; where owner, Ben Dieter, has
provided a private room gratis for the rehearsals.
The ensemble
has performed in Warroad, Roseau, Badger, Greenbush, Hallock, Kennedy and Thief
River Falls. Venues include birthday
parties, educational performances, prelude music, religious services, weddings,
baby showers, remembrance services, recognition dinners, libraries and health
care facilities.
Although they
love music, they know there is a greater purpose for everything one does. Each year they “play for a purpose” so that they
can give HOPE to another organization or individual. Music of Hope past charities include:
v
2009 World Vision
to give HOPE to sexually exploited girls and women.
v
2010 St. Gianna’s
Maternity Home in Warsaw, ND to give HOPE to new mothers.
v
2011 The purchase
of four violins and one cello to give HOPE to Roseau County elementary students
interested in learning to play a string instrument.
v
2012 Relay for
Life to give HOPE to cancer survivors.
v
2013 Roseau
County Food Shelf to give HOPE to the hungry.
A total of over $5,000 has been donated
by the group.
